Ex Situ (IPTD & HB1100)

WHAT IS IN PILE THERMAL DESORPTION®(IPTD®)?

Cascade’s IPTD process uses thermal conduction heating (TCH) to provide within-the-soil remediation that can be designed to treat any organic contaminant, streamlines material handling, and eliminates the need for off-site disposal of contaminated soils and sediment. 

Treatment cells composed of insulated, covered soil piles are equipped with electrically-powered heating elements. The heating elements operate at uniform temperatures of 700-800°C along their entire length. TCH ensures that all areas within a treatment cell achieve the target temperature within the specified time-frame (a typical heating period is 40 days per batch).

  • Cascade Thermal designes the process to be operated cost-effectively at full-scale within the available site footprint and time-frame.
  • IPTD treatment cells are designed to be inexpensively emptied and refilled for quick batch change-out and efficient utilization of off-gas treatment equipment.
  • Efficiently sequenced, IPTD can be one of the least expensive thermal remediation technologies, considerably less expensive in many cases than conventional ex situ thermal desorption.

 

WHAT IS THE HEATED-BOX (HB)1100?

Cascade’s patented HB1100, is a configuration of the above mentioned IPTD technology. It is an ex situ, on-site, batch-fed, indirect thermal desorption technology for remediation of soil, sediments, and construction debris. Each unit has a soil capacity of 100 cubic yards.

  • Land disposal restricted RCRA listed hazardous wastes, including hydrocarbon D, F & K listed wastes.
  • Wastes associated with drill cuttings (IDW) and manufacturing processes.
  • Facility decontamination: concrete and non-combustible building materials.
  • Any soil types including saturated and unsaturated sands and clays.
    • Any Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPHs), chlorinated solvents, and semi volatile organic compounds, including MGP coal tar or PCBs.
    • Dioxins and furans.
